"You have to pay me half of your salary if you want to learn about advertising." - my former Art Director, 1998
I've experienced countless rejections and humiliation before I became an Art Director in year 2003. In my earlier career, my Art Director told me to pay him half of my salary if I wanted to learn. Back in 1998, during the economy recession, I could hardly live on my salary. At that time, no one was willing to guide me; I felt empty, lonely, and heartbroken.
Nevertheless, I persevered on. I learned as many skills as I could, but all through gruelling ways until one day…
God softly whispered into my heart, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” - Psalm 32:8.
That was the defining moment - God picked me up!
"The more extensive a man’s knowledge of what has been done, the greater will be his power of knowing what to do." - Benjamin Disraeli, (1804 – 1881, British Prime Minister)
The moment I left that agency, I told myself, I will never be like him, my former Art Director. I will invest all my knowledge to my next generation of designers without any condition. Freely I received from God, freely I will share.
I will continue to carry out the legacy of Mr Lim, my primary teacher. His generosity to share his knowledge is immeasurable.
After 9 years in education…
Today, by God's grace, I received a wonderful news that 5 of my students' work have been selected into Turkey International Poster Competition 2020 (non-student category)
In 2013, I led my students to win a Gold and a Merit Award from Creativity International from United States of America.
Following 5 years, my student won a Gold at Kancil Awards 2018. The Kancil Awards is acknowledged as Malaysia's largest, most prestigious advertising awards competition.
Last year, 2019, my students won 11 awards from Kancil Awards 2019 (1 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze, 3 Merit). Posterist in the World, International Poster Competition in Cuzco, Perú (7 students' work have been selected under professional category), and Taiwan International Students Design Award (2 finalists).
As I looked back my journey, I cannot thank God enough for His faithfulness.

I live my life in a way I think would make Him proud of my achievements.
